Blacren Index: American Black history, by the numbers
Blacren Index began with a simple question: what happens when you give American Black history the same care a good data desk gives a market report?
Each episode is one story told through four numbers. The first three covered Hellfighters, Tuskegee and Greenwood. Then Black wealth builders, from the Freedman’s Bank to Black-owned banks today. Then Gladys West, Jerry Lawson, Mark Dean and Marian Croak, and the code and circuits they gave the world.
How an episode gets made
Source first. Every number is checked against a named source before it is animated. Where a source isn’t final, we flag it.
Hand-colored engraving look. The portraits are meant to feel like organic, hand-drawn linework, not clean vector art and not a comic book.
Two cuts. A 15-second teaser and a 60-second narrated reel, in vertical and widescreen.
A review gate. Art is scored against a style guide before it ships. If it fails, it is redone.
Blacren Index is the community arm of Space Negro, our Afrofuturist IP universe, and it’s where we test how far a repeatable system can go. The same engine can tell a brand’s numbers the same way. If you have a story that needs a number behind it, start a conversation.
